Job Description

Overview Executive Director West Los Angeles Chapter, based in Santa Monica, CA. This position is an external-facing, community relations role that involves building relationships within the community and representing the American Red Cross to expand awareness of its programs and opportunities for involvement. Responsibilities Serve as the Face of the Red Cross to maximize presence and connectivity in the community and expand recognition of the Red Cross contributions. Develop sustained community relationships to support achievement of region mission goals. Develop and manage the chapter board to mobilize support and resources around the Red Cross mission. Develop and manage community volunteer leaders to serve as the Face of the Red Cross, support mission capacity building, develop key partnerships, and recruit volunteers. Foster teamwork and inclusion to effectively deliver against the Red Cross mission; may serve on the Elected Officials Liaison Network supporting disaster responses. Serve as a member of the Elected Officials Liaison Network; may be deployed to disasters outside the chapter jurisdiction for up to two weeks. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance. What you need to succeed Education: Four-year college degree (BS/BA) in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Finance or non-profit administration or equivalent experience required. Preference for Master’s degree in community organization, public or business administration, or non-profit management. Experience: Minimum of 7 years related experience. Demonstrated ability to exercise good and timely judgment in complex situations; strong communications and influencing skills, public speaking and writing; ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies; ability to build sustained community relationships/partnerships; proven experience in influencing others and building relationships. Management Experience: N/A Other: Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Familiarity with federal, state and local employment laws. Skills & Abilities: Ability to work on a team. Travel: Travel within communities served and region; may travel to meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system. May include long periods sitting, driving, and working under challenging conditions. A current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Physical Requirements: Regularly sit; use hands; communicate verbally. Reach with hands and arms. Occasionally stand, walk, crouch, kneel, or crawl. Frequently lift up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 30 pounds. Moderate office noise; ability to work in a small cubicle and sit at a computer for extended periods.
